Our stylists

Four chairs, four people

Not sure who to book with? Call and describe your hair — whoever picks up will tell you honestly who in the room is best for it.

Maya Okonkwo — owner, senior stylist

Best for: colour correction, blondes, extensions.

Seventeen years behind the chair, eleven of them in Minneapolis before opening Juniper in 2019. Maya takes the hard colour work — the box-dye rescues and the four-visit transformations — and she is the reason this studio says no to things more often than most.

Books out: about four weeks. Rate: roughly 20% above listed prices.

Devon Reyes — stylist, curly specialist

Best for: curly and textured hair, short cuts, fringe.

Curly-certified in 2021 and the person half our clients come here for. Devon cuts dry, curl by curl, and sends everyone home with a written routine that uses products you can buy at a drugstore.

Books out: three to four weeks. Rate: listed prices.

Priya Raman — stylist

Best for: balayage, lived-in colour, long layers.

Trained in Chicago, here since 2022. Priya does the soft, grown-out-looking colour that people bring photos of, and she is unusually good at making fine hair look like there is more of it.

Books out: two to three weeks. Rate: listed prices.

Tess Lindqvist — junior stylist

Best for: cuts, blowouts, single-process colour, treatments.

Finished her apprenticeship here in 2025 and is building her book. Every service Tess does is checked by Maya before you leave the chair, and her prices run about 20% below the listed rate while she fills her column.

Books out: often same week. Rate: roughly 20% below listed prices.

The studio

Why there are only four chairs

Maya spent eleven years in salons that booked two clients into the same hour and called it efficiency. You sat in processing while your stylist started someone else, and a two-hour appointment took four.

Juniper has four chairs and four stylists, and nobody is ever double-booked. It means we take fewer clients and charge a little more. It also means when you're in the chair, you have someone's whole attention, and you get out when we said you would.

How we work

Three things you can count on

We'll talk you out of things

If the look you want would cost more than it's worth in damage or upkeep, we say so in the consult. You can still book it. You just won't be surprised later.

No retail pressure

We'll tell you what your hair needs and where to buy it, including when that's a drugstore. We stock a few things because clients ask, not because there's a sales target.

Education every quarter

The studio closes one day each quarter and all four of us train. It's why a trend reaches this chair about a year before it reaches most of the salons around here.
